Secant Pile Walls
Secant pile walls are an embedded retaining solution designed to support deep excavations in water-charged or unstable ground. Formed by overlapping reinforced and unreinforced piles, they create a continuous wall capable of retaining both soil and groundwater.
Application
Secant pile walls are constructed by installing piles in a predetermined sequence, with unreinforced soft piles followed by reinforced hard piles that overlap to form a continuous wall. The completed wall provides both ground and water retention and can be designed to carry structural loads. This system is well suited to fine sands, soft wet ground, and cut-off walls such as cofferdams, and can be constructed using CFA, bored piling, cased secant piling, or turbo jet methods.
Advantages
- Minimal disturbance to adjacent properties
- Low noise and vibration
- Reduced need for dewatering
- Can form part of permanent structural works
- Suitable for temporary or permanent applications
