Segmental Casing
Segmental casing is used to stabilise bores during piling in deep or unstable ground conditions. Installed and extracted in sections, this method enables safe excavation and controlled pile construction where bore stability cannot be maintained by drilling alone.
Application
Segmental casing is installed during the drilling stage of bored piling to support unstable soils. Casings are advanced by oscillation using a drilling rig or oscillator, while soil is removed using augers or drilling buckets. Casing sections are joined mechanically and withdrawn in segments during concreting. This method is suitable for foundation piles, secant pile walls, and contiguous retaining walls.
Advantages
- Low noise and vibration
- High load capacity
- Suitable for restricted working areas
- Effective in challenging ground conditions
